On March 24, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and "Xploration Earth 2050" received two nominations, one for Outstanding Special Class Series and another for Outstanding Writing Special Class. The series, hosted by renowned artist and futurist Chuck Pell, is one of four shows comprising "Xploration Station," a two-hour blog of STEM-related programming airing on Saturday mornings on Fox TV stations.

Since its premiere in 2014, "Xploration Station" has been well represented at the Daytime Emmys. In 2014, "Animal Science" was nominated for Outstanding Children's Series, and in 2015, "Xploration Earth 2050" was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Series. 2015 also saw a nomination for Philippe Cousteau, grandson of legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau, in the Outstanding Lifestyle/Travel/Children's Series Host category for "Xploration Awesome Planet."

"When we pitched Xploration Station two years ago, we promised a fascinating block of high quality STEM shows (science, technology, engineering, math), and I'm proud to say we've delivered just that," said Steve Rotfeld, president of SRP, "With five Emmy nominations in Xploration Station's first two years on the air, we here at Steve Rotfeld Productions salute all of our 150 stations, partners and supporters for making it possible. The best is yet to come."

In addition to "Animal Science," "Xploration Awesome Planet," and "Xploration Earth 2050," the block also includes "Xploration Outer Space," hosted by Harvard scholar and former NASA employee Emily Calandrelli. Last season, the series partnered with Project PoSSUM for the #StudentAstronaut contest, in which Ohio State University senior Jillian Yuricich won the chance to attend a 5-day astronaut training program and appear in an episode of the show.

The Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, May 1.
