The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption was honored to be asked to participate in NBC4’s The Autism Puzzle. This Emmy-winning series takes a critical look at the research and resources surrounding families living with autism. In the latest edition, the station took a look at the resources surrounding children with special needs who are in foster care.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has one goal: To dramatically increase the number of children adopted from foster care. Our signature program is called Wendy’s Wonderful Kids and through that the Foundation furnishes grants to private and public adoption agencies, which then hire specially-trained adoption recruiters whose sole mission is to find adoptive homes for the children who have been in foster care the longest. The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters focus on children over the age of 9, sibling groups, children with severe trauma, physical and mental challenges, developmental challenges and children who have had a previous adoption disruption.

The Foundation was asked to participate in The Autism Puzzle because a young boy from our caseload found his forever family and began to thrive in the loving environment. This is further proof that Unadoptable is Unacceptable and that there is a family for every child.
