International NGO Conservation International’s new progress report on Starbuck’s C.A.F.E. Practices program for responsibly sourced coffee provides an in-depth look at the positive impact one company is having on land conservation and human dignity. According to the 132-page report, which documents impacts from 2011-2015, nearly 190,000 hectares (465,000 acres) have been conserved across the 23 countries where C.A.F.E. Practices are in place, and no natural forests have been converted to coffee production since the program’s founding in 2004 on 99 percent of participating farms. Moreover, program has positively touched the lives of 1.3 million workers hired by participating farms and mills. Improvements are also being documented over time, with participants earning an average 14 percent improvements in their scores.  C.A.F.E Practices-produced coffee is now on track to make up more than one-quarter of the world’s supply. SCS Global Services has been proud to work in support of the program for more than a decade, supervising the training, approval, and oversight of the independent verification organizations around the world who document participant compliance.  Read the full report here.
