(3BL Media) Cherry Hill, NJ - May 24, 2012 - Subaru of America, Inc. announced a new partnership with United By Blue, the ocean-friendly apparel brand.  United By Blue (UBB) removes a pound of trash from oceans and waterways for every product sold.  The all-wheel-drive Subaru Outback will serve as the official UBB cleanup vehicle.

“A partnership with Subaru goes beyond cleanups and cars: it drives home the fact that other companies are as committed to protecting our oceans and waterways as United By Blue,” said Brian Linton, United By Blue Founder and Chief Trash Collector.

During a cleanup season, UBB hosts an average of 25-30 ocean and waterway cleanups throughout the country. To date, UBB has removed 105,955 pounds of trash from oceans and waterways in 12 states during 70 cleanups. UBB organic t-shirts, canvas bags and jewelry can be purchased online or from over 200 retailers throughout the US and Japan.

"There is no better vehicle for cleaning up waterways than an Outback,” said Mike Cangi, United By Blue Director of Cleanups. “The roof cargo carrier holds all of our cleanup gear, the comfortable seats are perfect for transporting eager volunteers and the open hatchback and collapsible seats make it easy for us to move thousands of pounds of trash in a matter of minutes.”

“Subaru is proud to partner with businesses that make the world a better place, so United By Blue is a natural fit,” said Todd Lawrence, Sponsorships and Promotions Manager for Subaru of America.

Subaru will co-host a total of four waterway cleanups along the East Coast.  Select items from UBB’s 100% organic apparel line will also be available for purchase through the Subaru Gear.

“More than 100 volunteers collected over 7,000 pounds of trash at our first clean-up near the Subaru headquarters in Cherry Hill, N.J.  That’s the equivalent weight of two Subaru Outbacks!  We are looking forward to a successful cleanup season with United By Blue,” added Lawrence.
