The Sustainability Report delivers information regarding IDB’s contributions to sustainability during 2010. This year’s Report also provides insights into key development trends and related sustainability dimensions in Latin America and the Caribbean.   The 2010 Report has three parts.

Part I details four development meta-trends that have profound implications for sustainability in the in Latin American and the Caribbean, and includes viewpoints from stakeholders on how the Bank and its partners are addressing these issues. The viewpoints on sustainability are authored by former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry M. Paulson, Jr.; Peru’s Minister of Environment, Dr. Antonio Brack; President of the Host Committee and Co-Chair of the International Committee of Rio+5, Dr. Israel Klabin; and Dr. Antoni Estevadeordal, Manager of Integration and Trade at the IDB.

The reports on development meta-trends in Part I focus on:

- increasing global resource demand
- the tropical agricultural revolution
- urbanization and peri-urban growth
- the consequences of sea level rise in the Caribbean.

Part II serves as an overview of the Bank’s advances in integrating sustainability into its operations. It details sustainability policies and procedures, tools, monitoring and evaluation at the IDB, as well as the year’s sustainability investment highlights, and provides quantitative information on environmental and social safeguard issues within IDB investments.

Part III provides a brief overview of the Bank’s in-house sustainability performance.

The IDB is using its new institutional reform agenda http://www.iadb.org/en/insitutional-reforms/better-bank-the-idb-reform-agenda,1819.html, as well as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 framework, to guide its reporting efforts.
