Partnerships Drive Progress Toward a Trachoma-Free World

Pfizer and its incredible network of partners dedicated to the fight against trachoma recently came together at the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Summit 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the London Declaration: a bold and historic goal to eliminate or control 10 NTDs by 2020, including trachoma.

Trachoma, the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness, is both treatable and preventable. Pfizer and the International Trachoma Initiative are partnering with more than 100 diverse organizations toward the goal of eliminating this devastating disease. Several countries have already reached their elimination targets, and from 2011 to today, the number of people around the world who require treatment for trachoma has dropped by nearly half. This remarkable progress is a testament to the unique partnerships that have been formed across the public and private sectors toward the global goal of achieving a trachoma-free world.
