BETHESDA, Md., October 27, 2016 /3BL Media/ – As a leader in sustainability, Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] takes continuous steps to manage its carbon footprint. CDP has recognized the Corporation’s progress by awarding it a spot on the Climate A List, a distinction only given to the top nine percent of participating companies. Lockheed Martin has earned this distinction because of its commitment to transparency and implementation of its Sustainability Management Plan, a roadmap of initiatives to integrate environment, social and governance factors in its business practices. CDP, formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, partners with businesses on strategies to measure, manage and reduce their environmental impacts.   “Sustainability is more than a label, it’s Lockheed Martin’s business model for innovation and growth,” said Leo Mackay, senior vice president of Internal Audit, Ethics and Sustainability for Lockheed Martin. “This recognition from CDP reinforces our accomplishments in driving sustainability in our core practices and cutting-edge technologies.”   Lockheed Martin has incorporated climate change impacts into its business model for nearly 15 years, and that kind of ethical and strategic thinking is paying off for the corporation and its customers.   “In 2015 alone, we have avoided an estimated $26 million in energy costs by investing in energy efficiency,” said Carol Cala, vice president of Energy, Environment, Safety and Health for Lockheed Martin. “And we will continue to create a sustainable future through investments in clean energy and energy efficiency at every level of our operations.”   Lockheed Martin continues to explore opportunities to expand its sustainability initiatives. Some of them include:
  • Signing a17-year power purchase agreement with Duke Energy to provide 30 MW of solar energy to the national grid.
  • Opening a new bioenergy facility in Owego, New York that converts waste into clean energy.
  • Pledging to quadruple on-site renewable generation to 10 MW by the end of 2020 through EPA's Green Power Partnership.
