Freeport-McMoRan Honored with Local United Way Awards

Freeport-McMoRan’s Norwich, Miami and Sierrita operations each were honored with awards by their local United Way organizations.

Each year, Freeport-McMoRan partners with United Way to raise funds for hundreds of health and human service agencies that provide critical programs and services in the areas of education, financial stability and health.

Last year's campaign raised more than $7.6 million, including the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation's double match on employee contributions of $25 or more up to the first $1,000 and single match on amounts more than $1,000.

The Awards went to

  • Norwich operations – Corporate Support of the Year award from the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut in recognition of Freeport-McMoRan’s match on employee donations and increase in employee participation

  • Miami operations – Transformer award from the United Fund of Globe-Miami, Arizona, in recognition of former General Manager Derek Cooke's leadership in growing Miami's campaign to more than $1 million

  • Sierrita operations – Best Large Company and Champions of Caring award from the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona in recognition of Freeport-McMoRan’s match on employee donations, outstanding campaign results and impact in the community
