Columbia University and Citi Announce National Expansion of Columbia’s Center for Veteran Transition and Integration
Columbia University Center for Veteran Transition and Integration today announced a new collaboration with Citi to increase educational programming and support for veterans and military family members making the transition to two- and four-year colleges, graduate and professional schools, civilian life, and the workforce. With $300,000 in support from Citi Community Development, the national expansion of the Center will provide tools and resources that address the unique challenges veterans face entering the classroom and workplace with the aim to reach 10,000 service members and their families in the first two years.

Citi Community Development Announces $2.6 Million Investment in Collaboration with 12 Municipalities and Regions, to Support Free Tax Preparation Services
Citi Community Development announced today a $2.6 million investment to support free tax preparation services for eligible workers in major cities and regions across the country. Launched on National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day, the investment will support municipal efforts to expand awareness, access and capacity of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites during the 2018 tax season. Citi Community Development’s investment aims to help local organizations complete over 230,000 tax returns, resulting in approximately $191 million in tax refunds during the 2018 tax season. Citi also announced that volunteers from the bank will serve as tax preparers in VITA sites across the New York City region.

New Report Finds That Closing the Racial Wealth Gap Would Lead to a $24 Billion Boost to Long Island’s Economy
PolicyLink today launched An Equity Profile of Long Island, a new report that shows how persistent segregation and racial disparities in wealth, housing, educational attainment and many other areas is costing Long Island billions of dollars in potential economic growth each year. A detailed policy brief accompanying the Equity Profile was also released providing a series of recommendations designed to close the racial wealth divide which would result in a major boost to Long Island’s economy. The profile and accompanying policy brief were produced by PolicyLink and the Program for Environmental and Regional Equity (PERE) at the University of Southern California, with lead funding and support from Citi Community Development.

SAGE and Citi Community Development Announce Expansion of SAGE LGBT Elder Housing Initiative that Boosts Access to Safe, Affordable Housing for Seniors
Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) and Citi Community Development announced today a major expansion of SAGE’s LGBT Elder Housing initiative. Launched last year, the SAGE LGBT Elder Housing Initiative is a comprehensive national program to expand access to safe, affordable, and welcoming housing for LGBT older adults. The Initiative supports LGBT older adults in existing senior housing while simultaneously accelerating the development of housing specifically designed for them. SAGE has named Kelly W. Kent as Director of its National LGBT Elder Housing Initiative to implement and scale SAGE’s strategy within affordable housing projects and promote best practices for building inclusive housing.

A Conversation with Cities: Mayors on Catalyzing Collaboration & Engaging Citizens
When it comes to addressing the complex challenges that come with rapid urbanization, cities have an opportunity to tap into their strongest natural resource – their citizens. The City Accelerator continues to help city governments engage with their citizens so they can improve services and quality of life. For 18 months, cities in the initiative’s second round of participants focused on enhancing the ways in which cities engage with their residents on important local issues such as fostering entrepreneurship and connecting those in need to social services.

Citi Foundation and America’s Promise Alliance Announce 2016 Youth Opportunity Fund Grant Recipients in 10 U.S. Cities
The Citi Foundation and America’s Promise Alliance announced today the selection of 12 nonprofit organizations as 2016 Youth Opportunity Fund grant recipients. The Fund – now in its second year – awarded an additional $3 million in support of programs that connect youth to opportunities that increase their employability and prepare them to compete and thrive in a 21st century economy. To date, the Fund has provided $6 million to support 24 organizations, reaching more than 7,000 youth.

City of Rio to Host First C40 Event to Unlock Access to City Financing
Today, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) and the City of Rio de Janeiro announced a first-of-its-kind global financing forum to accelerate city climate action. The C40 Financing Sustainable Cities Forum – hosted along with the Citi Foundation and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities – will bring together senior decision-makers from financial institutions, the private sector and more than a dozen city governments from across the globe. The Forum will take place April 5-7 at the City of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic new Museum of Tomorrow.

Citi Foundation Announces $4.8 Million Investment in Summer Jobs Connect to Jumpstart Career Readiness of More than 2,000 Youth
Today, as part of the announcement of the Summer Opportunity Project and Champions of Change event at the White House, the Citi Foundation announced a $4.8 million grant to Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to provide more than 2,100 low-income youth with summer jobs and access to financial education as part of Summer Jobs Connect. The program, a part of the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative, uses the opportunity of a first-employment experience to instill early career readiness lessons and positive financial behaviors for lifelong success.
