The report highlights activities in the four focus areas critical to the company’s long-term success and sustainability across the enterprise, including:

  • People: Creating a workplace where associates can grow and contribute to the success of the company
  • Community: Protecting and nurturing the vitality of our communities by investing in programs that demonstrate a measurable impact
  • Environment: Measurably reducing our carbon footprint by advancing environmentally responsible behaviors

“We recognize that a strong correlation exists between positive social/environmental performance and solid financial performance,” said Ed Heffernan, chief executive officer of Alliance Data. “The principles of giving back to the community and valuing our people have been embedded in the operating principles and culture of Alliance Data since the company was formed in 1996. We’re now stepping it up by improving the way we measure, manage and communicate our social and environmental performance.”

In addition to formalizing the governance structure to guide the organization’s corporate responsibility strategy, other highlights from the 2013 report include:

  • Partnering with industry associations and peers in a first-of-its-kind collaborative roundtable to help inform best practices related to responsible data-driven marketing, and educating legislators, policy makers, regulators, consumers, and other constituents
  • Introducing new benefits for associates (employees) based on feedback from internal surveys, and achieving recognition as a “Best Place to Work” in numerous locations across the lines of business
  • Investing nearly $4.5 million in communities, and volunteering more than 15,000 hours in communities
  • Completing the first enterprise-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and enterprise-wide waste management survey, establishing baselines for future programs and performance

The Corporate Responsibility report documents baseline environmental, social and governance performance, and contains stated goals for the year ahead.
