New Energy Companies: “Green,” Sustainable, and Profitable

Future growth hinges on the appropriate response to present conditions while strategically developing longer-term plans. For most industries, social, environmental, and political issues are having increasingly greater impact in reshaping the present and future business environment. In particular, the oil and gas (O&G) industry is challenged to reliably and economically deliver transportation fuels in the present day while working strategically to provide “cleaner” energy products in the future.

Ecocentricity Blog: Miles of Opportunity on The Ray

Even the land itself (called the right-of-way) can multi-task! This year, Georgia will deploy a one-megawatt solar farm in and along the shoulder of The Ray, following successful pilots in Oregon and Massachusetts.

Designing Sustainable Water Supply Systems in Africa

Tetra Tech is bringing clean water and effective delivery systems to Liberia to address water sector challenges.

Piped drinking water has not flowed in most of Liberia's secondary cities for a quarter century. Shortly after the Liberia civil conflict began in 1989, these systems were destroyed or fell into disrepair, leaving urban residents dependent on either unreliable or contaminated water sources like shallow wells and surface waters. As a result of the war, local capacity in water supply engineering, operations, maintenance, and management became limited or non-existent. Tetra Tech is implementing the Liberia Municipal Water Project (LMWP I & II), which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Harnessing the Power of the Sun for a U.S. Army Facility

ECN Magazine highlighted the 2 megawatt, 24-acre solar photovoltaic array that is being constructed at the Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) site in Dugway, Utah. This new system will allow DPG’s existing electrical grid to produce 4 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. Tetra Tech and joint venture partner TriEco are serving as the prime contractor for the design and build of the array. DPG is executing this project to optimize efficiency and conserve natural resources through on-site renewable energy generation and to support their objective of meeting renewable energy goals. This is the first of many prospective renewable energy projects to support to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) renewable energy goals.

AMLI Residential, Green Mountain Energy Commit to 100 Percent Renewable Energy in Houston and Dallas

AMLI Residential and Green Mountain Energy Company have announced a sustainability partnership to install 330 kW of solar panels across four AMLI communities in the Dallas area. AMLI is also purchasing 100% renewable energy for all of the common areas at its apartment communities in Houston and Dallas. By moving its more than 20 communities in the Texas competitive electricity market to 100 percent renewable energy, AMLI is expected to offset more than 20.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide per year, which is the equivalent of planting 2,300 trees or taking 2,100 cars off the road for a year.

Consumers Energy CEO Patti Poppe: Michigan Deserves Clean Energy

Consumers Energy has a track record of doing more than is required to ensure Michigan’s air, water and land are cleaner for future generations to enjoy.

Utilities Key to Powering the Future of Mass Transit EVs

What will mass transit look like in the future? Earlier this year, California announced an ambitious plan to reduce emissions by 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, setting the state on a path to achieving 80-percent reduction by 2050. Although satisfying these goals will require contributions from all sectors of the economy, the transition to zero- and near-zero emission vehicles will play an outsized role — particularly when it comes to mass transit.

Allen: Embracing Clean Energy Helps Companies and Communities Thrive

In January, I spent a day in Richmond meeting with lawmakers to share why clean energy matters to Mars Inc., and to emphasize our support for access to renewable energy and efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Together with other Virginia-based companies, we outlined the value of clean energy and emission-reduction policies for companies like Mars that are looking to grow their business and invest in sustainable solutions that provide mutual benefits for customers and communities.
