The company announced this week that ESS has received both the Top Product of 2019 award for its renewable energy-focused NEO Network™ and Top Project of 2019 award for its Advanced Visualization Hack Challenge done in collaboration with client, Procter & Gamble.

Kimberly-Clark Switches on One of Singapore’s Largest Solar Roofs

Kimberly-Clark switched on one of Singapore’s largest solar energy installations at its manufacturing facility in Tuas, which produces Huggies diapers and Huggies baby wipes. The 7,730 photovoltaic panels mounted on its roof will generate 3.5 Gigawatt hours of clean energy, enough to power up a thousand 3-bedroon HDB flats for a year.

Solar power plants provide many benefits but at least one perpetual challenge: How do you keep grass under the panels from growing too high? Mowers with traditional blades can damage equipment. Hand-held weed-whackers are a labor-intensive solution. Even the sheep tried at one small site behaved unreliably. So why not innovate and let engineers-to-be address this question for college credit?

Consumers Energy Chief Sees Solar Future in Michigan

These days, the sticker sits in Poppe’s office at Consumers Energy’s headquarters in her hometown of Jackson. It’s a symbol of her personal evolution on climate change — and the transformation she’s leading at Michigan’s largest natural gas and power provider.

$13M Apartment Complex Breaks Ground in Downtown Jackson

The $13 million development, called The 200, includes plans for 86 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments on four floors. It’s on pace to open in spring 2021, said Kevin Thomson of Jackson Downtown Partners, developer of the complex.

The city is giving over the land for $1 and Consumers Energy is incorporating the project into its Jackson Smart Energy District.

Plans for complex include solar panels on the roof and energy efficiencies throughout.
