Earth Overshoot Day keeps coming earlier, and it’s not an occasion we want to celebrate. It’s the day our annual demand for ecosystem goods and services, like cropland, timber, fish stocks and carbon dioxide absorption, begin to exceed what ecosystems are able to renew in a year. Calculated by Global Footprint Network, Earth Overshoot Day reminds us that we are consistently borrowing from the future, and a more aggressive approach to sustainability isn’t an aspiration, it’s a need.
All this week, we will be recognizing employees from our U.S. facilities who have helped GM realize $435 million in energy savings by reducing energy intensity by 40 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by 41 percent over the last 20 years.
Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) recognized worldwide efforts of Grupo Financiero Banorte (GFNorte) to lessen the impact of climate change by selecting it to join the Carbon Performance Leadership Index, after obtaining a rating of 100 A. thus becoming the first institution in Latin America belong to the category "A", the highest position in this index.
