Vinyl Sustainability Council Presents the 2021 Design for Reuse Award to The AZEK Company
December 20, 2021 /3BL Media/ - The Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC), a self-funded business council advancing sustainability in the vinyl industry, presented its inaugural 2021 Design for Reuse Award at its annual meeting to The AZEK Company, of Chicago, Illinois for its TimberTech AZEK® Landmark CollectionTM decking.
“TimberTech AZEK’s new Landmark Collection decking was designed with recycling at end of life in mind,” said Jay Thomas, Executive Director of the Vinyl Sustainability Council. “This is a perfect example of design for reuse that is necessary to increase the recycling rate of vinyl building products.”
The Vinyl Sustainability Council’s Design for Reuse Award recognizes vinyl products purposely designed for disassembly, recycling, or reuse at the product’s end of life.
The AZEK Company’s TimberTech AZEK® Landmark CollectionTM
The AZEK Company is the industry-leading designer and manufacturer of beautiful, low maintenance, and environmentally sustainable outdoor living products, including the TimberTech AZEK Landmark Collection decking. With a reclaimed wood aesthetic, the Landmark Collection launched in February 2021 and is made entirely from synthetic material, approximately 50% of which is recycled PVC. Through research and development and controlled product chemistry, the product was formulated specifically to ensure post-use recyclability.
For homeowners weighing their decking options, choosing the Landmark Collection means choosing a beautiful, long-lasting and low-maintenance option – without compromising the environment. In fact, homeowners choosing TimberTech decking over wood have helped save over 3 million trees since 2001.
“We are proud to accept this award from the VSC and in alignment with our core value better today than yesterday, we’re going to continue our work to create innovative, beautiful and high-performance outdoor living products that help build a more sustainable future,” said Amanda Cimaglia, AZEK’s Vice President of ESG. “We lean into innovation to create products that people love, while diverting hundreds of millions of pounds of waste and scrap from landfills each year.”
