Last weekend the fourth annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer from Montreal to Quebec City took place during one of the many gloriously beautiful weekends we’ve had so far this summer.

The scenery was breathtaking and the ride was epic. The number of riders shattered previous records: 1,956 riders to be precise. And their fundraising efforts were also record-breaking. They raised $7 million for cancer research benefitting the Jewish General Hospital. Vigilant Global riders contributed a little over $23, 000 to the $7 million thanks to family, friends, and a few of our corporate sponsor buddies too.

We were eight among almost 2000 riders and not one of us can say the weekend didn’t move us in some way; whether we’ve been impacted by cancer in one way or another, or not. Now we are a competitive bunch, but by the end of the weekend the reason we rode became so much more than raising money for research and a test of will and strength. We were riding alongside cancer survivors and their stories made us want to ride for them because they were so inspiring.

Meanwhile, back at Vigilant on Monday morning and talk of the ride has inspired other Vigilant employees to join the cause next year. We’ve already signed on for 2013.
