RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., August 14, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Samsung Electronics America received the first-ever “President’s Blue Circle Award” from Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) during a ceremony hosted at BGCA headquarters in Atlanta yesterday for continued support in educating children and youth about issues critical to the future of the environment. In collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ENERGY STAR, Samsung has provided energy-efficient products to more than 150 BGCA clubs across the country that have sponsored ENERGY STAR pledges. Samsung will also participate in a special ENERGY STAR Day event in Atlantic City at a local Boys & Girls Club on October 29.

Over the past three years, in addition to opening the door for clubs to compete for Samsung PCs, laptops, TVs, tablets and other valuable technology at their individual clubs, Samsung’s unique support of BGCA and their initiatives helps young people and their families become more aware of the connection between climate change and energy consumption. Through the “Save the World – Start with ENERGY STAR” pledge initiative, Samsung and BGCA have collectively enabled thousands of Americans to take the ENERGY STAR Pledge, saving more than 220 million pounds of greenhouse gases, according to the EPA.

“Through our partnership with the EPA and with Samsung’s help we have been able to engage more than 150 clubs throughout the United States,” said Marvin Laster, Director of Character and Citizenship programs for BGCA. “Club members have been enthusiastic and have gone out in their communities to teach others about energy conservation, through the ENERGY STAR pledge and through other creative BGCA initiatives. These members understand the importance of why we need to change the world by saving energy.”
