(3BL. Media / theCSRfeed) April 19, 2011 -  Nestlé has published its latest Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report, which, this year, focuses on the company's contributions toward rural development.

The report analyses the global challenges and opportunities with regard to food security, the impact of Nestlé's 440+ factories - the majority of which are located in rural areas – as well as its farmer programmes that positively affect over 550,000 farmers directly. Some of the highlights for 2010 were the USD 45 million in financial assistance Nestlé provided to farmers and the training of over 165,000 farmers through capacity-building programmes. In addition to the CHF 200 million invested in coffee projects over the past 15 years, Nestlé will be investing a further CHF 500 million in sustainable coffee sourcing and production through The Nescafé Plan, which was launched last year.

The report also examines Nestlé's actions in the areas of water and nutrition and outlines the company’s progress against key performance indicators (KPIs) across its value chain, including the actions it has taken to address the key challenges facing its business, such as child labour in agriculture, palm oil and deforestation.

The report, available both as a summary and as a full online report can be accessed online at http://www.reportalert.info/ra/profiles/Nestle/2011/?ID=36829
