Austin, Texas, March 6, 2017 /3BL Media/ On March 10, the LIVESTRONG Foundation will host an unveiling reception for The Hero’s Journey Art, an art installation created by sculptor John Magnan in collaboration with Eli Lilly and Company to honor clinical trial participants and raise awareness of the importance of clinical trial participation.

Lilly commissioned Magnan to build a series of crowd-sourced sculptures made from bricks decorated by thousands of the company’s clinical trial participants and community members. As an extension of its unique partnership with Lilly, LIVESTRONG will house one of The Hero’s Journey Art installations at its headquarters in Austin.

“LIVESTRONG is honored to be a part of The Hero’s Journey Art Project and to pay tribute to the thousands of clinical trial participants – and their loved ones – whose noble contributions to medical research make way for innovative treatments and procedures for millions of people fighting for their lives around the world,” said Greg Lee, President of LIVESTRONG. “This installation celebrates the determination of the human spirit to overcome painful struggles with strength and perseverance – and with the love, support and encouragement of their friends, families and communities.”

“Lilly is excited to see the broad research community, particularly patients, honored for their efforts in bringing new medicines to the world,” said Joe Kim, Senior Advisor in Clinical Innovation at Lilly.  “Using art to publicly commemorate the clinical trial community is both rare and unexpected. We hope that this art will inspire others to engage with research to improve the well-being of future generations.”

The March 10 reception is open to the public and will take place at the LIVESTRONG headquarters in Austin (2201 E. Sixth Street) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information about this event, contact Sarah Lilly. To learn more about The Hero’s Journey, visit HerosJourneyArt.com.
