May 22, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Legal & General Groups Sustainability Report 2013

What’s Material? - Access to Housing, Health and Income in Later Life

Nigel Wilson, Group CEO of Legal & General and Chair of the Group’s Corporate Responsibility and Ethics Committee said: “This year’s report is outstanding and in my view, our best yet. It gives readers access to data that demonstrates how ethically and socially active the people in our business are. It embodies our social purpose, which is a large part of our strategy.

It shows the outside world how we are campaigning for the big issues that matter to our business to give more people access to housing, to help more people with coping with ill health and to give more people access to income in retirement. We are now making the biggest decisions in our business with this in mind as our infrastructure investments place long term capital into the areas of the economy and society that we think matter.

As Chief Executive of this worldwide Group, I am immensely proud of how we go about setting ourselves stretching targets in the area of sustainability. In 2013 we met 22 of our 25 public commitments to improve our Environmental, Social and Governance performance across the Group”

Graham Precey, Head of Corporate Responsibility and Ethics for the Group said “This new framework helps us to deliver data, analysis and insight to our readers in a clear way of how this business ticks and is taking a wider set of views in to improve our decision making. We know from web analytics that our readers are primarily Non-Governmental organisations, activists, customers and people looking for a job at Legal & General, so at the same time, we have to ensure the report is accessible for all.”
