Watch: Land Betterment on Inside Indiana Business

FISHERS, Ind., January 20, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Land Betterment Corporation (“Land Betterment” or the “Company”), an environmental solutions company fostering positive impact through upcycling former coal mining sites to create sustainable community development and job creation, today announced its featured video segment on Inside Indiana Business highlighting its project in Greene County, Indiana to convert an old, decommissioned thermal coal mine into Coal Craft Spirits, an organic, farm-to-bottle craft distillery.   In the featured video, Land Betterment is proud to showcase the benefits of focusing on both environmental remediation of the former Landree mine and job generation to benefit the local community.

“The work our team is completing at the former Landree mine is a perfect case study which can be replicated throughout coal country,” stated Kirk Taylor, President of Land Betterment.  “By viewing both the environmental and social issues holistically, we can start to piece together a cohesive plan where everyone has access to new opportunities and gives us the ability to efficiently bring real solutions to these real problems.”

The site being redeveloped, the former Landree mine, in Jasonville, Indiana, once produced coal to power Indianapolis and surrounding areas.  Once the primary fuel source moved away from coal, the mine was no longer economically viable.  Land Betterment is now undertaking the extensive environmental remediation project that was neglected and left by the prior operator and is turning the site into the Coal Craft Spirits Distillery to both pay homage to the hard-working community and also provide a path to future opportunity.

With the demise of the thermal coal industry, communities in this region have been left with a void of economic opportunity and a dwindling tax base.  Land Betterment aims to take specific projects past the environmental phase to focus on social problems as well.

Mr. Taylor added, “Bringing new industry to these communities provides opportunities for those that once made a living in the coal mines that once powered our region.  The Coal Craft Distillery will provide job opportunities with very translational skillsets such as working with electrical circuitry and heavy machinery, troubleshooting, as well as working within very specific processes.’
