FISHERS, Ind., January 31, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Land Betterment Corporation (“Land Betterment” or the “Company”), an environmental solutions company fostering positive impact through upcycling former coal mining and industrial sites to create sustainable community development and job creation, announced that ekō Villages of Hope, which provides fully-furnished and operational ekō homes to areas affected by natural disasters and other communities of need, has begun shipping the next four homes to Dawson Springs, Kentucky through its private sponsorship model.

Through a newly established charitable fund in partnership with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky (“CFWK”), individuals and companies can help sponsor ekō homes through donations made to the foundation’s ekō Villages of Hope Fund, found through the link here. The money raised through the fund directly benefits displaced families in need by providing them with a place to call home. The sponsorship model is established to provide ekō homes to families for the duration of either six months or twelve months, but can be continued thereafter on a single month-by-month, six month, or yearly basis.  A donation of $24,000 provides a fully built, delivered, utility-connected, furnished and rent and home for an entire year (or $18,000 for six months), then a $1,000 per month fee thereafter.

These four new homes, with additional homes coming shortly thereafter, were provided with the generous support of Community Foundation of West Kentucky and Brook Smith, a longstanding Louisville, Kentucky entrepreneur and philanthropist, that committed immediately to the cause to help these communities and families in need.

Mark Jensen, Executive Chairman of Land Betterment commented, “We couldn’t be more thankful for the support of Community Foundation of West Kentucky and the individual support of Brook Smith to get these next homes deployed in short order.  I called my friend Brook Smith on the drive down to Dawson Springs to install the initial four homes and mentioned the project.  With no questions asked he said, ‘I am in and here to help support this community’.  People like Brook and the members of the CFWK show that difficult situations are met by people of action, people that understand the need and are willing to rise up to make a difference. As the first temporary housing available to the community, our goal is to promptly get another 200 of our homes sponsored and to displaced members of these disaster-hit communities that need a solution in short order.”

Brook Smith commented, “There are times to evaluate and there are times to act. Now its more important than ever to act to help get this community back on their feet and show them that the world understands the challenges they are facing and that we are by their side to help.  I am thankful to be part of the solution to get a roof over the heads of these families and give them a place to call home and to focus on rebuilding.”

It is the goal of ekō to get over 200 homes into West Kentucky for the temporary housing solution that is immediately needed after severe weather and tornadoes struck the region several weeks ago.  Furthermore, after the two year rental period is concluded,  Land Betterment will work to remove the homes, refurbish them, and use them again for housing or offices elsewhere throughout other areas that are in need. Through its ekō housing division, Land Betterment’s goal is provide high-quality homes to communities through a sponsorship model for a term of six months to two years, thereby helping communities rebuild.  Under this model, Land Betterment can substantially reduce the burden of the community, the state and the federal government by incurring the cost to build and deploy ekō homes in a temporary (yearly) model.
