December 19, 2012 /3BL Media/ - The Sustainability Professional Certificate (SPC) program from the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) blends sustainability concepts and practices with organizational change theory to provide participants with the leadership skills and knowledge to lead a sustainability program. Now in its fourth year, the SPC online certificate program provides participants with the skills and competencies to join the emerging field of sustainability and corporate responsibility.

The program provides working professionals and others seeking a solid foundation with sustainability tools and best practices to develop their competencies to lead sustainability initiatives towards transformational change. It includes engaging and networking in small online classes in state-of-the-art audio/video platforms, direct contact with the instructors throughout the month-long courses, virtual webinars, and 24/7 access to resources at the Learning Center.

To complete all nine of the workshops in the SPC program within the first seven months of 2013, participants need to attend to the Leadership Skills for Change Agents workshop, taught by ISSP Sustainability Hall of Fame(TM) inductee Bob Willard. This face-to-face course is being offered as pre-conference workshop on May 8th in Chicago, the day before ISSP Conference 2013, which provides an opportunity to network with and learn from sustainability professionals from around the world. Bob's Leadership Skills workshop will also be offered on-line later in the year, for those who choose not to travel to Chicago for the face-to-face class.

At the end of the nine-workshop SPC program, participants are able to:

  • Effectively apply systems and strategic thinking skills

  • Evaluate and use sustainability tools

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills using vocabulary of sustainability

  • Utilize project management skills

  • Choose strategies for buy-in from top management

  • Articulate a business case for sustainability

  • Estimate how to adapt to changing business conditions/priorities

  • Build and maintain sustainability management systems

  • Develop sustainability metrics

  • Articulate effectively with internal stakeholders

ISSP members and SPC program participants lead initiatives within Fortune 500 and Main Street businesses, universities and colleges, city governments and non-profits. They take on positions such as Sustainability Officer, Sustainability Director, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability Analyst, Sustainability Coordinator, Sustainability Consultant, Green Facilitator, Sustainability Analyst and Sustainability Services Expert.

Learners who purchase the entire certificate program within any four-week period will receive discounted pricing of $2,600 for nine workshops, which represents a savings of more than 25 percent off regular members-only class rates. They will also be able to enroll in the prerequisite Sustainability 101 workshop for free, which represents a $250 value.
