Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Product Carbon Footprint Assessment Workshop Offered By International Society of Sustainability Professionals

The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) is hosting a four-week on-line workshop that will teach participants how to a conduct a GHG inventory or carbon footprint in a wide variety of circumstances.

(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) February 10, 2012 - Carbon footprinting, both at an organizational and a product level, is an essential skill in bringing sustainability to organizations of all types. The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) is hosting a four-week on-line workshop that will provide participants with an excellent background, rigorous process and concrete tools for conducting a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory of a company and carbon footprint of a product. The interactive course will be taught by Tom Gloria, PhD. Tom is managing director of Industrial Ecology Consultants of Newton MA. He has more than 19 years of professional experience in sustainability management consulting and information technology engineering design.

The material discussed in the workshop will provide key context, policy trends, and will include an overview of emerging GHG protocols. The entire process of conducting a GHG inventory will then be presented, including:

  • Selecting relevant protocols and data tools

  • Setting boundaries for your inventory

  • Data gathering

  • Calculating emissions

  • Estimating emissions sources with incomplete data

  • Interpretation of results, and framing of major issues

  • Final reporting writing and other dissemination

The workshop's four webinar topics are:
Week 1: Overview, policy and regulatory update
Week 2: Company level GHG inventory, offsets and trading
Week 3: Product GHG footprint and certification
Week 4: Program management and practical tools
 
The workshop is intended to provide a foundation in the main technical issues so students are ready to take on the task of a GHG inventory or carbon footprint within any type of organization and for a wide variety of products and services.
 
About Tom Gloria, PhD
Thomas P. Gloria, PhD is Managing Director of Industrial Ecology Consultants. His work encompasses product innovation; environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle management (LCM); methods and policy implications regarding greenhouse gas emissions inventories; and energy efficiency feasibility analysis.
 
Dr. Gloria is a Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional and member of the Executive Committee, Advisory Board, and Chair of the Technical Committee of the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment. Dr. Gloria is also the Chair of the Advisory Committee of US Life Cycle Inventory effort under the auspices of the US Department of Energy.
