DETROIT, May 15, 2019 /3BL Media/ – Corporate Responsibility Magazine has named General Motors to its 20th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking, recognizing outstanding environmental, social and governance transparency and performance among the 1,000 largest U.S. public companies. GM is ranked No. 24 for 2019. This is the third year in a row that GM is ranked in the top 100.

"For General Motors, being a good corporate citizen is central to who we are," said Sharon Basel, GM Senior Manager of Sustainability. "This award reaffirms our commitment to sustainability across several disciplines for our customers, employees, shareholders and the communities in which we live and work."

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking is based on 134 total corporate disclosure and performance factors in seven categories: climate change, employee relations, environment, finance, governance, human rights and stakeholders and society.

Highlights from GM’s ranking include its scores related to stakeholders and society, human rights and climate change:

  • GM stands out on issues like fair pay and good benefits, customer treatment and privacy, environmental impact, community support in the U.S. and abroad, ethical leadership and long-term financial growth.
  • The company continues to earn accolades for its efforts in mitigating climate change, including putting in place policies that address climate change risk, identifying greenhouse gas emissions targets and a timeline to achieve them, and disclosing a clear approach to reduce energy consumption from non-renewable sources.
  • GM is also committed to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion across the company and its disciplines. The company was ranked No. 1 for gender equality by Equileap, based on its commitment to pay equity at all levels of the company as well as innovative programs like Take 2, an internship for experienced professionals re-entering the workforce after time away.
