Gildan, in collaboration with the Education Ministry in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), recognized the academic achievement of more than 4,500 students through its sponsorship in the Educando program.

As part of this program, now in its eight year, Gildan plays an active role in contributing to elementary school activities for recognizing students’ academic excellence.

“During this event we celebrated the children that have overcome the barriers of our society and gave their best to be an example in their schools and homes, showing that they are capable of achieving success,” said Freddy Barrantes, Country Manager, Gildan.

Through the program, the Company organized a ceremony to honor and reward children who distinguished themselves academically, but also by their good behavior at school every day. Additionally, teachers are also recognized for outstanding performance. The event was held in the communities of Guerra, Bayaguana, Boca Chica and Batey Esperanza. Students received academic excellence diplomas and backpacks containing a variety of school supplies.

Over the years this initiative has supported students’ efforts to successfully complete their school year, in addition to promoting the active participation of parents in their children’s education. Teachers are provided with educational tools to support a clean and safe school environment through the environmental education program, Eco-Schools.
