(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Calgary, Alberta - June 9, 2011 - Encana Corporation has been recognized for its corporate responsibility performance in the Corporate Knights Magazine’s 2011 Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada. Encana was ranked among the top energy producers and 15th overall.
Encana was also ranked the top Canadian company and 12th overall on the Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list, released in January 2011.
“We are extremely pleased to be among the top companies in Canada in Corporate Knights’ Best 50 Corporate Citizens. This recognition reflects the commitment of each and every one of our employees to building a responsible, sustainable energy future. Corporate responsibility is central to the way we conduct our business. Saying we are committed to responsible action is one thing, acting in a responsible manner shows that we have met our commitments,” said Bob Grant, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development, EH&S and Reserves.
The Best 50 Corporate Citizens is determined using a list of measures evaluating performance in the areas of environmental, social responsibility and governance. Scores are based on indicators such as energy and water productivity, sustainable development and lost-time incidents. Commitment to transparent reporting also plays a role in the rankings.
Encana moved up the list from 2010 when it was ranked 39th overall. Encana was one of only two oil and natural gas producers to crack the top 20 in 2011.
“This rise in the annual ranking reflects our efforts to improve the reporting and measurement of our corporate responsibility performance,” said Grant.
Encana’s corporate responsibility commitments encompass the following: governance, environment, people, health, safety, community engagement and community investment. More details can be found at www.encana.com/responsibility.
