(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) December 14, 2011 – Encana employees continued to enrich the communities where they live and work by doubling the impact of their $1.6 million donation through the company’s matching gift program during the annual Encana Cares campaign in October. Employees who take part in the charitable campaign select which groups they wish to support and Encana matches those donations dollar for dollar - bringing this year’s total amount donated to $3.2 million.

However, the true impact of the Encana Cares Annual Campaign is measured by far more than a dollar tally of funds raised. As witnessed by the company’s Calgary employees who gathered at Glenbow Museum on December 13, the fruits of their generosity equate to paying it forward by providing much-needed resources to the registered charities which make our communities better places to live.

“I’m very proud to say that our employees support causes that are meaningful to them for a variety of reasons,” said Patricia Etris, Team Lead Community Involvement for Encana. “This event is an opportunity for us to meet with the many organizations in Calgary who benefit from the Encana Cares annual campaign and hear first hand how critical this support is to our community.”

The smiling faces and testimonial of these community leaders as they accepted their donations told the story. These people went on to share what the support from Encana employees means to their organizations.

“Encana employees are change leaders for Inn From the Cold. Their compassion and support for our families is changing lives and the way we live within our community,” said Yvette Rasmussen, Executive Director from Inn from the Cold.

“Encana employees should know that their support played a role in the aid we were able to deliver to the Horn of Africa relief effort as well as relief efforts in Haiti and Japan,” Kevin Stagg, Director of Development with Samaritan's Purse Canada.

“Encana’s support funds the research that will help extend my life and offers me hope,” said Didja Nawolsky, a volunteer with the Kidney Foundation of Canada and a dialysis patient.

The more than 50 Calgary-based organizations in attendance at the event are a snapshot of approximately 1,300 charities across North America that benefited from employee giving during the Encana Cares Annual Campaign. More than 1,600 employees in Canada and the U.S. participated, donating $1.6 million – a dollar amount then matched through Encana Cares to bring the total to $3.2 million.
