Corporate Citizenship – Delivering Social Impact and Business Value

Corporate Citizenship is being integrated into companies. No longer an organization that sits to the side in the corporate hierarchy, it is now recognized as a key business driver.

A recent opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal by Jon L. Pritchett and Ed Tiryakian said this:

"Our message to small shareholders of companies like Starbucks, Merck and Target: You can sue when a CEO decides to institute a corporate social-responsibility program that has no benefit to the business. If you want to ensure shareholder primacy is protected, keep your legal options open."

While the legal merits of this advice are up to debate, there is something to be taken away: If your Corporate Citizenship efforts have business value, the shareholders will support the efforts, or at least they will be less likely to bring a suit against your CEO.

Corporate Citizenship is being integrated into companies. No longer an organization that sits to the side in the corporate hierarchy, it is now recognized as a key business driver.

Corporate Citizenship executives know how to maximize their company’s resources for social impact. They understand the principles of corporate philanthropy. It is imperative to their success that they acquire the knowledge and skills they need to integrate corporate citizenship throughout their company. Failing to do so, can have dire consequences.

The Corporate Responsibility Executive Institute (CREI), a joint partnership of ACCP and the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College of Business, was formed to provide Corporate Citizenship leaders with the foundational knowledge they need to ensure that their community investments deliver social and business value.

CREI consists of three standalone programs. Executives can take one, two or all three. Executives electing to complete all three can apply for the Certified Corporate Responsibility Executive designation awarded by ACCP and Notre Dame.

Applications for the final program being offered in 2017, Strategic Business Leadership, are now open and the dates for 2018 have been released.
