Booz Allen Systems Engineer Theresa Wesley Honored with Society of Women Engineers Emerging Leader Award
Only 13 percent of engineers and 26 percent of computer scientists in the workforce are women, and over 32 percent of women switch out of STEM degree programs in college, according to research by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

SWE aims to improve these statistics, inspire current and future STEM professionals, and empower women engineers worldwide with its annual awards. At this year’s WE18 Conference October 18-20 in Minneapolis, SWE named Booz Allen Senior Lead Technologist Theresa Wesley among its 2018 Emerging Leaders.

Two Booz Allen Women Join Effort to Stop Sexual Harassment in Newsrooms
Two Booz Allen women have recently taken on leadership roles in a new initiative—Press Forward. Founded by current, former and aspiring female journalists, Press Forward’s mission is to elevate women in the workplace and develop solutions that will change the media industry culture so that newsrooms are safe, inclusive and fair for all journalists.

Booz Allen Senior Vice President Dee Dee Helfenstein serves on the advisory board, and Lead Associate Carolyn McGourty, who began her career as a journalist at ABC News, is chair and one of the movement’s 12 founders. The initiative arose out of the #MeToo movement and launched at the National Press Club on March 13.

Booz Allen’s Patricia Goforth: A “Powerful Female Engineer” Committed to Building a Strong STEM Pipeline
Patricia Goforth became the first female leader of Booz Allen Hamilton’s engineering and science business, tasked with charting the course for the firm’s 3,400 engineers and applied scientists who build transformational solutions for clients. Trish was recognized last month by Business Insider as part of the “39 Most Powerful Female Engineers of 2018.”

Booz Allen’s Catherine Ordun Honored with DCFemTech Award
Booz Allen Hamilton Data Scientist Catherine Ordun will be recognized with a DCFemTech Award at a ceremony to be held May 7 at The Washington Post. The prestigious award recognizes women in the D.C. Metro area “based on their impact on the organization they work for, the complexity of the issues they address with code or data, and their open source contributions or work in the community.” This year, 54 honorees were selected for recognition from a pool of 620 nominees. DCFemTech is a “coalition of women leaders aimed at amplifying the efforts of women in tech organizations, sharing resources, and bringing leaders together to close the gender gap.” Catherine will be the first female at Booz Allen to ever receive this award.

Fourteen Booz Allen Women Honored with Women of Color in STEM Awards
Fourteen Booz Allen Hamilton women were honored as Technology Rising Stars and All-Stars at the 2017 Women of Color in STEM Conference, held in October in Detroit, MI. These women join nearly 250 of their Booz Allen colleagues who have been recognized with Women of Color in STEM awards since 2004.
