With 26 power-generating dams over its length, the Wisconsin River lives up to its billing as one of America’s hardest working rivers. However, there is growing concern about algal growth — specifically green and blue-green algae — in Wisconsin’s waterways.As concern over algal growth increases, the state has proposed a requirement for point sources to reduce phosphorous levels in effluent by 80 percent or more. After more than 20,000 tweets and retweets from people sharing their support for reducing ocean plastic, SC Johnson has announced it will build an additional recycling center in Indonesia. SC Johnson last week challenged social media users around the world, including attendees at the GreenBiz 2019 sustainability conference, to tag #SocialPlastic or #SCJRecycles in their social media posts. The challenge engaged over 150 million people, raising awareness of the rapidly growing ocean plastic crisis.

Leading by Example: Viacom Hosts Inspiring Career Day with Figure Skating in Harlem

Viacom, in partnership with The BEAT (the African American Employee Resource Group), hosted a career day for over a dozen girls from Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH). The girls, grades 7-11, were exposed to the world of media and entertainment and a peek into Viacom’s culture. The event was all part of Viacommunity’s (Viacom’s corporate social responsibility arm) All Good, All Year Initiative. All Good, All Year aims to engage employees each month with at least one volunteer event. In honor of black history month, February’s event aimed to show FSH girls what a career in the media industry looks like.
