Seven years ago, Elena Davis was sitting at an intersection when a homeless woman approached her car. She immediately began to rummage around for spare change. But, when she rolled down the window to hand over the coins, Elena was surprised to be met with a different request.

The UPS Foundation Awards Tree Planting Grants to 21 Keep America Beautiful Affiliates Nationwide

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced the distribution of 21 grants totaling $120,000 from The UPS Foundation for the 2017 Keep America Beautiful/UPS Community Tree and Recovery Tree Planting Grants program. The grant recipients’ projects will result in more than 1,200 trees being planted in support of locally-relevant initiatives.

Mother Starts Charity to Fulfill Cancer-Survivor Daughter’s Dancing Dreams

Andrea Rizzo's dream was to become a dance therapist and work with kids with special needs and cancer. On May 19, 2002, she was on her way home from a dance performance and was killed by a drunk driver. Her mother Susan Rizzo was devastated but credits a group of compassionate friends and colleagues for helping her through it. “One of Andrea’s colleagues approached me and said let’s start a foundation in Andrea’s name. She wanted to be a dance therapist, somehow maybe we can provide dance therapy to children,” said Susan.

Carter Work Project Twitter Party

Please join us on Thursday, June 29, for a Twitter Party celebrating Habitat’s Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which will be held this year at sites throughout Canada in early July. President and Mrs. Carter and hundreds of volunteers will build alongside 150 future homeowners, all in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

Beyond Volunteering: Harnessing the Energy and Optimism of Youth in Advocacy

Back in 2013, I joined the Alliance to End Hunger after a decade as a corporate lobbyist. As with any major life change, this one had implications on our family routines. One night over dinner, my husband and I talked about my new job with our children — then 8- and 6-years old. That evening at bedtime, my daughter, Sarah, said thoughtfully, “But Mommy, if you end hunger you won’t have a job anymore.” My response to her was “And wouldn’t that be wonderful.”

Arrow Electronics Sales Team Supports Ronald McDonald House in Toronto

Earlier this month, members of the Arrow Electronics Toronto-based sales team donated their time to cook and serve dinner for more than 150 people at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) location in downtown Toronto. The Arrow team arranged the event, purchased the provisions, and prepared and served a multicourse meal to families currently calling the facility home.
