To address environmental, social, and governance issues effectively, CSR professionals today must look beyond their own operations and deep into their supply chain. How and where are materials sourced? How are the components of products developed? What are the environmental and human rights ramifications of those processes? Issues as serious as child labor, conflict minerals, and climate change can only be effectively tackled when a company’s commitments to corporate citizenship and reporting are adopted by their suppliers and partners.
The initial activities involving the first four projects financed by the Costa Crociere Foundation that focus on social solidarity and marine environmental protection initiatives have now gotten underway. Approximately Euro 600,000 has been allocated to the non-profit organizations whose projects were selected by the Foundation to develop activities to raise awareness about marine waste and training programs for more than 1,500 needy young people.
More than 500 of GSK’s suppliers to its manufacturing and R&D divisions globally have been actively asked to share and take forward practical ideas to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impacts through GSK’s Supplier Exchange. GSK, which often utilises a collaboration approach across all parts of its business, has set up the GSK Supplier Exchange to help reduce its carbon footprint across its value chain by 25% by 2020.
