Maltz believes the Players Association’s record of accomplishment over 50-plus years serves the greater labor movement as a visible example of the gains workers can achieve when they stick together and form cohesive unions.

CITGO Lemont Refinery Hosts STEM Workshop for Area Teachers and Students

As a part of the CITGO STEM Talent Pipeline Initiative, last month the Lemont Refinery partnered with The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project to host an all-day learning workshop for STEM teachers and their students at the Lemont Township Community Center. A total of 10 teachers and 29 middle and high school students attended the CITGO Energy Workshop – representing school districts from the towns of Crest Hill, Lemont and Romeoville.

First-Ever National Geographic Teen Service Award Honors Young People Fighting Illiteracy and Climate Change in Their Communities

21st Century Fox’s National Geographic has selected three high school students as the recipients of the National Geographic Student Expeditions Inaugural Teen Service Award, a new program recognizing young people who have demonstrated a commitment to making a difference in their communities. Alexa Grabelle, Delaney Reynolds, and Kaimana Idica will each receive $500 college scholarships, and Grabelle, as the grand prize winner, will embark on a National Geographic Community Service Expedition to Fiji this summer. The awards program is one of the many ways National Geographic continues to empower the next generation of global citizens and explorers.

‘Xploration Station’, Fox’s Three-Hour Block of STEM Programming for Kids, Earns Seven Daytime Emmy Nominations

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has recognized four of the six series composing Xploration Station, the three-hour block of STEM programming for kids and teens airing weekend mornings on Fox TV Stations, with a total of seven nominations for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. DIY Sci, Xploration Awesome Planet, Xploration Outer Space, and Weird But True were all nominated across a range of categories, including Outstanding Children’s or Family Viewing Series for DIY Sci. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, April 30, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California.

T. Rowe Price: Parents Are Likely to Pass Down Good and Bad Financial Habits to Their Kids

T. Rowe Price’s 2017 Parents, Kids & Money Survey, which sampled 1,014 parents of 8 to 14 year olds nationally and their kids, analyzed parent attitudes and behaviors that were associated with kids’ financial habits. The survey found that positive money behaviors and expectations among kids are often associated with parents’ decision to let their kids decide how to save and spend their money on their own, as well as modeling good financial habits. Conversely, troubling financial habits among kids were more frequently seen when parents have a troubling history with money.
