Chris Ball and his colleagues spent the better part of his workday pushing mulch on a playground. This workday was different for Ball because he was taking part in the annual Day of Caring, where dozens of KitchenAid volunteers find local nonprofit organizations to help for a day.

Local Dog Park, Pet Shelters and Social Service Agencies Benefit from Purina's Annual Employee Volunteer Day

Demonstrating an ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of pets and people, 1,400 Purina employees blanketed the greater St. Louis area last month during "PetCare Pride Day," the company's annual volunteer day. In its 16th year, PetCare Pride Day reached more than 20 non-profit organizations in Missouri and Illinois.

Shire Volunteers Give Back to Local Community

Given that there are 30 SeriousFun camps and programs around the world, there are often opportunities for Shire employees to volunteer in their own backyard. Such is the case for Shire office employees in Southern California, where the SeriousFun camp The Painted Turtle is only a 45-minute drive away. On Saturday, May 13, The Painted Turtle hosted Corporate Volunteer Day and twelve Shire employees spent their morning helping to prepare the 174-acre site for the arrival of campers and their families. All SeriousFun Children’s Network camps provide life-changing experiences for children living with serious illnesses, totally free of charge.

Through its Engineers Without Borders (EWB) USA Grant Program, Tetra Tech supports projects that help communities in developing countries meet their basic human needs. The grant program provides funding to individual projects with which U.S.-based Tetra Tech associates are involved.

Deloitte’s “2017 Volunteerism Survey” of working Americans found that creating a culture of volunteerism may boost morale, workplace atmosphere and brand perception. However, surveyed employees do not view volunteerism as a way to advance their career or develop new skills.

Republic Services Supports Seattle Clean Sweep Community Clean-Up

Republic Services, joined by Coca-Cola, Starbucks and many other community organizations, recently partnered with Clean Sweep for the annual Seattle community cleanup event in Capitol Hill in partnership with the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and Pridefest. Volunteers rallied together at Cal Anderson Park and dedicate hours to picking up trash, recyclables and sharps in the Cap Hill neighborhood. Not only does the cleanup benefit the community in general, it also helps prep the streets for Pride month and the upcoming parade.

Fenner Nature Center in Lansing Enhanced by Consumers Energy Volunteer’s Involvement

Consumers Energy employees are taking part in volunteer efforts this spring to support environmental stewardship and sustainability throughout Michigan. Lansing’s Fenner Nature Center is one of the beneficiaries, thanks to employee Scott McPhail. McPhail, an engineer with Consumers Energy in Jackson, has been an active volunteer at the Fenner Nature Center for more than two years and also serves on the organization’s board of directors.
