CAMPAIGN: Connect A Million Minds

CONTENT: Multimedia with summary

Time Warner Cable is committed to getting young people engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In order for young people to get excited about their future in STEM fields, it is crucial that they have the tools to form a strong academic foundation. For thousands of kids living in homeless shelters across New York City, this can seem like an impossible task. For the last 7 years, Time Warner Cable has worked alongside Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack campaign to ensure that the most vulnerable children have the school supplies they need to thrive as the new school year starts.

In addition to airing PSA’s raising awareness for this cause, Time Warner Cable has proudly participated in Sort Week, where volunteers select specific school supplies and place them in new donated backpacks according to the needs of students in each grade. During this year’s Sort Week on August 13th, Time Warner Cable employees convened in a warehouse full of vibrantly colored backpacks, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, calculators, folders, and basic toiletries. It wasn’t long before the warehouse was buzzing with activity. Employee volunteers were combing the isles of supplies to make sure each backpack was equipped with everything bright young students need to excel. By the end of the event, Time Warner Cable employee volunteers packed 1,500 backpacks. Being able to place school supplies in backpacks knowing they will soon be in the hands of excited children is an experience that Time Warner Cable employees look forward to year after year. Not only does participating in this campaign positively contribute to the lives of the most vulnerable children in NYC, it also creates an opportunity for our employees to work together while demonstrating Time Warner Cable’s values in the community.
