In 2015 the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) ranked Newmont as the mining industry’s leader in overall sustainability, marking the ninth consecutive year the company has been included on the index.

Newmont also received the highest score in the mining sector across a number of areas measured by the index including climate strategy; environmental policy/management systems; corporate citizenship and philanthropy; and labor practices and human rights.

“It is critical that we continually improve our safety, economic, environmental and social performance so that Newmont remains an industry leader and is well positioned for long-term success,” said Dr. Elaine Dorward-King, Newmont’s Executive Vice President for Sustainability and External Relations. “This recognition by the DJSI World highlights Newmont’s deep commitment to sustainable business practices, as well as demonstrating our values of safety, integrity, sustainability, responsibility and inclusion.”

The DJSI World tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies worldwide, independently evaluating their long-term economic, environmental and social performance. The top 10 percent of performers are selected from among each industry group. DJSI evaluates companies based on a variety of criteria, including transparency, corporate governance, risk and crisis management, environmental management and performance, climate strategy, water risks, stakeholder engagement, local community development, labor practices, human rights and safety.

Newmont was the first gold company named to the DJSI World in 2007, and has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.
