WALTHAM, Mass., June 20, 2019 /3BL Media/ —  National Grid will show their unwavering commitment to inclusion and diversity, and the LGBTQIA community, as a sponsor of WorldPride 2019. The WorldPride 2019 celebration in New York City also marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a series of demonstrations that sparked a fight for LGBTQIA rights in the United States. On June 30, hundreds of National Grid employees will march in the Pride parade that attracts 3 million people.

Employees will walk alongside a National Grid electric vehicle as part of an effort to increase awareness and adoption of electric vehicles. This is part of a larger goal to reduce carbon emissions by 80% below 1990 levels by the year 2050 with the states they serve: Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. National Grid believes building a diverse and inclusive workforce is the right thing to do and the only way forward to an innovative, clean energy future.

National Grid provides equitable and inclusive benefits to all employees, covers sexual orientation and gender identity in Equal Employment Opportunity policies and supports an Employee Resource Group (ERG) called PRIDE, which is a resource to LGBTQIA employees and allies. The PRIDE ERG has established partnerships with peer utilities to build a community of LGBTQIA energy professionals to share best practices. The PRIDE ERG is one of 11 groups that aim to foster a culture of inclusion at National Grid.

Throughout the month of June, Pride flags stand tall at all six of National Grid’s main offices throughout Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. While this year the company is sponsoring WorldPride, the Company has previously sponsored multiple Pride celebrations across its footprint.

“Pride month is all about celebrating inclusivity and individuality,” said Dean Seavers, President of National Grid, US. “This is the culture we strive to create year-round at National Grid, so we are proud to sponsor WorldPride this year to demonstrate that commitment. When we bring people together from different backgrounds, we see and learn from different perspectives, and that’s always something to celebrate.”
