MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 24, 2020 /3BL Media/– International Paper (NYSE: IP), one of the world’s leading producers of renewable, fiber-based packaging, pulp and paper, has been a proud supporter of the Arbor Day Foundation since 2018. Through their support of the Community Tree Recovery program and the Time for Trees initiative, the company has helped plant trees across the country. These trees are restoring forest canopy after a natural disaster, providing critical wildlife habitat, and improving watershed health.

To celebrate National Arbor Day — the tree planting holiday — on April 24, International Paper encourages people to take action and plant trees in their communities. The Arbor Day Foundation has also provided resources to celebrate the holiday while observing social distancing at www.celebratearborday.com. Urban trees help clean the air and water, reduce stormwater runoff, sequester carbon and reduce the urban heat island effect.

“Each year, Arbor Day reminds us of all that trees do for us,” said Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. “Forests clean our air and water, mitigate climate change, and are home to critical wildlife. With the help of partners, we are able to regenerate life back to these forests. We encourage everyone to set the day aside to make a positive impact in their community by planting or celebrating trees.”

International Paper tree planting efforts contribute to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Time for Trees initiative. Launched in 2019, Time for Trees unites corporations, communities, and individuals under the goal of planting 100 million trees and inspiring 5 million tree planters by Arbor Day of 2022. “We are committed to building a better future for people and the planet,” said Sophie Beckham, chief sustainability officer, International Paper. “Our work with the Arbor Day Foundation enables us to make meaningful contributions to both. I hope we can inspire others to take action by planting a tree this Arbor Day.”
