Campaign: How2Recycle Label

July 23, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Sigma Plastics Group (Sigma) is the newest member of GreenBlue’s How2Recycle Label program, which now includes almost thirty participating companies. How2Recycle is an on-package recycling label developed by GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition to better communicate to consumers how to recycle a package.

Sigma is the largest privately held manufacturer of extruded polyethylene films and bags in North America, and produces a diverse range of flexible packaging products including plastic produce bags, garment and dry cleaning bags, retail carry-out bags, and more. Polyethylene bags and films are accepted at many retail and grocery store take-back locations and qualify for the How2Recycle Store Drop-off Label. Sigma will initially label their plastic dry cleaning and carry-out bags.

Sigma is the first member of the How2Recycle program to label dry cleaning bags. In recognition of their efforts, Sigma received a sponsorship from the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Flexible Film Recycling Group to join the program. ACC manages plasticfilmrecycling.org, an informational website consisting of a search database of over 15,000 drop-off sites in the country that accept plastic bags, films, and wraps. Each How2Recycle Label carries the how2recycle.info website to direct the general public seeking more information to the appropriate next action, including the informative plastic film recycling website.

“The How2Recycle Program’s goals include a diversity of participants, and the addition of Sigma Plastics will enable the public to more fully understand proper recycling of plastic bags and wraps, to include dry cleaning bags,” said Anne Bedarf, Senior Manager at GreenBlue.

ABOUT HOW2RECYCLE
How2Recycle is a program of GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). The SPC’s goal is for the How2Recycle Label to appear on the majority of consumer goods packaging by 2016 and to provide participating companies with detailed information regarding the recyclability of their packaging. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the use of the Store Drop-off Label. Any company interested in joining How2Recycle should visit www.how2recycle.info/how2join and contact Kelly Lahvic at kelly.lahvic@greenblue.org.
