As a global organization, we are committed to reducing our energy intensity across our global facilities 20 percent by 2020.

And, along the way, we’ve hit some other energy efficient milestones, including being named a 2013 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, earning the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year award the year prior, and being named the No. 1 automotive user of solar power in the U.S.

But our initiatives are not only global in scope. On a local level, many of our facilities are working hard to ensure an energy efficient practice.

CAMI Assembly of Ingersoll, ON, home of the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, is one of our facilities that we recently named our top performer in energy efficiency.

The facility improved its overall energy efficiency and conservation, having met GM’s external energy benchmark criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR® program. CAMI also reduced its energy intensity by 10 percent and water usage by 5 percent year-over-year.

“This recognition is really a testament to all the hard work of all of our employees, who have a laser focus on building top quality vehicles for our customers, but at the same time work tirelessly to reduce CAMI’s environmental footprint,” said Les Bogar, plant manager, CAMI Assembly.

In addition to being recognized for energy efficiency, the CAMI stamping facility islandfill-free, recycling, reusing or converting to energy all waste from daily operations.

The facility’s work doesn’t end within its four walls; in fact, it shares its learnings and best practices with other GM global facilities, furthering GM’s global sustainability. For example, its robust compost plan, where the facility reuses cafeteria and employee’s personal food scraps as compost, will soon make its way to other facilities.

Beyond a role model facility, CAMI Assembly represents the impact one of our facilities can have on how we operate our facilities globally.
