(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) May 7, 2010 - Royal Dutch Shell plc has released its Sustainability Report for 2009 at: http://www.shell.com/sustainability

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has confirmed an A+ application level of its G3 Reporting Guidelines.

The report describes how the company is meeting energy demand through technology and innovation applied in the right way: with respect for communities and the environment.

It illustrates how Shell is helping to build a low-carbon energy future by:
*  increasing production of cleaner-burning natural gas to over half its total energy output by around 2012.
*  spending $1.1billion on research and development to develop advanced technologies, including those needed to produce energy more efficiently.
*  providing customers with cleaner, more advanced products, such as lower-sulphur fuels and its most efficient fuel ever - Shell FuelSave.
*  working to improve the sustainability of today's biofuels and investing to develop more advanced biofuels for the future.
*  continuing its advocacy efforts with governments - calling for effective
policy frameworks for carbon dioxide management and a price for emitting carbon dioxide.
*  embedding sustainable development more firmly in its businesses - through the company's reorganisation in 2009 more sustainability-related roles were created at senior level and embedded in its operations.

The report also includes an interview with chief executive officer Peter Voser that discusses how sustainability is now closer to the core of Shell's business plans and decisions.

For the fifth year, an independent external review committee has reviewed and assessed the report's balance, completeness and responsiveness. The committee's assessment is included in the report.

Hard copies of the report and Shell's Sustainability Review, an eight-page summary of the main report, can be ordered from mailto:bbs@shellbankside.co.uk
