PHILADELPHIA, December 10, 2020 /3BL Media/ – Essity, a global hygiene and health company and manufacturer of the Tork® brand of paper towels, napkins, tissue and toilet paper made from recycled and third-party certified systainable fibers has earned a place in the latest Dow Jones in the latest Dow Jones Sustainability™ Index, one of the most prestigious sustainability indices in the world.

Essity qualified for inclusion in the 2020 Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index in the Household Products category, receiving high scores for its environmental and social reporting as well as its work with suppliers, brand work, innovation and climate strategy.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index was launched in 1999 and assesses companies according to economic, environmental and social performance parameters. The Index tracks the performance of the top 20% of the 600 largest European companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index℠ that lead the field in terms of sustainability.

Essity is a Swedish company with North American headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. “Sustainability encompasses a range of factors, and Essity is committed to not only reducing our environmental impact, but also to improving the well-being of peopleꟷ and these often go hand in hand,” says Amy Bellcourt, Vice President Communications, Essity Professional Hygiene. “The past year has demonstrated how important it is for us to all contribute to improving hygiene standards and has also highlighted the increased need for focusing on sustainability initiatives as people and businesses adjust to life in the pandemic.”

Sustainability is a crucial part of Essity’s corporate commitment as the company aims to improve well-being, create more from less and contribute to a circular society. Early in 2020, its Tork brand unveiled its new Sustainable Life Away from Home strategy that provides insights into the impact of sustainable business practices on people’s lives, not only at home, but also where they work, dine and travelꟷ to help everyone contribute to reducing their environmental footprint.

“Tork has long been a forerunner in sustainability in the professional hygiene area,” said Bellcourt. “With innovations that allow end-customers to reduce consumption, cut carbon emissions and minimize waste, Tork products and services also help businesses and partners to reach their own sustainability targets.”

This November, Essity also achieved a first-place listing in the Dagens Industri sustainability ranking, sharing the accolade with Swedish grocery giants ICA and Axfood. Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri has ranked the country’s most sustainable companies in association with Lund University every year for the past three years.
