Ecolab and EarthCheck Introduce WaterCheck Risk Mapping Tool to Promote Hotel Water Stewardship

PAUL, Minn., June 11, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Ecolab Inc., the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, and EarthCheck, the world’s leading environmental management and professional service group, have joined forces to promote water stewardship within Asia’s travel industry through the introduction of WaterCheck, an educational tool that provides practical solutions for hotel operators to improve water efficiency at individual properties.  

“Water conservation is a rising challenge for the tourism industry and in some cases, the daily per guest consumption of water in certain Asian destinations is more than eight times greater than that consumed by local residents,” said Dr. Raj Rajan, vice president of Research, Development & Engineering and global sustainability technical leader for Ecolab. “If not managed responsibly, this inequity in water use can have polarizing impacts on local communities and interrupt business. By collaborating with EarthCheck, we hope to share our expertise to drive water management improvements throughout the industry.”

WaterCheck provides useful materials and information for hotel operators to identify and implement infrastructure and behavioral improvements to water management practices. The tool includes checklists to help operators audit property water use and guidance to develop action plans for needed improvements.

We’ve benchmarked hundreds of hotels throughout the world, released two international white papers and developed practical tools and resource kits,” said Stewart Moore, chief executive officer and founder of EarthCheck. “What we’ve found is the weakest link in the whole water-energy nexus is generally poor operational practices.”  

The introduction of WaterCheck follows the 2014 introduction of Hotel HealthCheck, a tool to help hotel operators address a range of potential health concerns within a property, including food safety, surface sanitation, water and air quality, and pests.
