Sixteen years of community work through Amway Taiwan’s corporate social responsibility program was highlighted at a forum hosted by the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) during a session titled “Corporate Volunteering in the Global Age”.

Shirley Chen, General Manager of Amway Taiwan, was the keynote speaker at the October 6 forum in Tapei. She mentioned that the Amway Taiwan's CSR work began in 1999. The program expanded in 2002 when Amway Taiwan established Hope Maker, providing donations to select charitable organizations and employment opportunities for disadvantaged individuals through the sale of charitable items by distributors. At the end of 2012, Amway Taiwan initiated a charity foundation within Amway Hope Makers to provide after-school tutoring and additional dream fulfillment opportunities for young people in the program.

At the end of 2014, the Amway Hope Maker program, which was expanded to a year-round offering, sold more than 367,000 charity products and garnered more than $472,000 for the program participants. At the same time, Amway Taiwan donated more than $2.8 million to selected domestic Non-profit Organizations (NPOs), including charity funds and schools, benefiting more than 23,000 people.

Kenn Allen, founder and president of Civil Society Consulting Group, L.L.C. and the vice general secretary of IAVE, spoke during the forum and introduced the Chinese translation of his book “The Big Tent: Corporate Volunteering in the Global Age”. Amway Taiwan’s stories from Hope Maker and associated philanthropic initiatives are profiled in the book.
