CSX and Action for Healthy Kids have again partnered to offer “Game On” School Grants for Healthy Kids to support increasing physical activity and promote nutrition initiatives.

Grants for the 2016-2017 school year are now open, ranging from $500 to $2,500. The “Game On” School Grants for Healthy Kids are designed to increase students' physical activity to 30 minutes per day in school and influence them to be active for an additional 30 minutes per day outside of school. The grants also advance the school nutrition environment through access to healthy foods, provide information to students and parents on the importance of physical activity and healthy eating, and help schools work toward certification through the USDA’s HealthierUS Schools Challenge.

CSX originally joined forces with Action for Healthy Kids in 2013 to increase physical activity among kids in school. At a time when half of U.S. students do not receive physical activity in an average week, CSX's support was aimed to fill a gap in the national resources provided to schools for wellness initiatives.

Since 2013, almost $1 million in grants have been awarded to 779 schools, increasing opportunities for daily physical activity among 393,384 students in 13 states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
