HOUSTON, June 7, 2017 /3BL Media/– CITGO renewed its Official Fuel Sponsorship of First Response Team of America, helping the organization support communities across the country in the crucial moments immediately following natural disasters. As Official Fuel Sponsor, CITGO will help First Response Team purchase the fuel they need to help communities struggling in the aftermath of a catastrophe.

“We have seen firsthand the positive impact of the First Response Team of America in CITGO communities, including their efforts in responding to tornadoes in Texas and strong flooding in Louisiana,” said Rafael Gómez, CITGO vice president of strategic shareholder relations, government and public affairs. “We are proud to continue to support their work across the country.”

The First Response Team of America arrives in communities at the onset of natural disasters, providing equipment and personnel to help save lives and restore hope in areas ravaged by catastrophes. The team supports communities in various ways, from clearing roadways to helping victims search for meaningful items lost in the debris. 2016 was a particularly devastating year, with a steady string of flooding, late-season tornadoes and Hurricane Matthew, which took a toll on Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and other southern states. This year alone, First Response Team of America helped 12 communities across eight states recover from catastrophes.

“First Response Team has responded to more than 100 communities across the country since its inception in 2007,” said Tad Agoglia, First Response Team of America’s founder and CEO. “On behalf of the men and women of the First Response Team of America, I would like to thank CITGO Petroleum Corporation for all that they have done to support our responses to disasters during the past two years, allowing us to reach so many people in their time of need.”

In addition to its second-year partnership with the First Response Team of America, CITGO continues supporting natural disaster recovery efforts. Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, CITGO helped communities recover by providing funds and fuel to nongovernmental organizations and first responders. More than ten years after the storms passed, CITGO continues to help with recovery efforts through its environmental protection and coastal restoration program, CITGO Caring for Our Coast.
