CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, July 15, 2015 /3BL Media/ – CITGO Petroleum Corporation recently led a volunteer restoration and clean-up project to beautify Hans and Pat Suter Park in Corpus Christi. The project is part of CITGO Caring for Our Coast, a yearlong program to promote environmental conservation and restoration through a series of volunteer and educational efforts, in keeping with CITGO’s long-held commitment to serve the communities in which it operates and in honor of the 10th anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita striking the Gulf Coast.

“CITGO supports community involvement at both the national and local level, as demonstrated by our dedication to Suter Park and the greater Corpus Christi community,” said Doyle Dommert, vice president and general manager of the CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery. “Our staff gave back to their hometown by revitalizing and improving park areas like the Butterfly Garden and the Memorial Garden so that their friends and neighbors can continue to enjoy the park for years to come.”

For the past nine years, CITGO and its employees have helped ensure that the Suter Park area is clean and free of debris in an effort to maintain the park’s natural environment and ecological value. The CITGO team takes a hands-on approach to refreshing the park area throughout the year, helping with everything from grass and weed removal to picking up trash and trimming branches.

“The upkeep and revitalization of Suter Park is an important and ongoing challenge,” said Stacie Talbert Anaya, assistant director of the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department. “We are grateful for CITGO, its resources and its volunteers as they continue to support maintenance efforts in our park.”

In August 2014, CITGO launched the CITGO Caring for Our Coast program with an event to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education with Dr. Robert Ballard's Ocean Exploration Trust. Since then, CITGO has led a series of volunteer efforts dedicated to mitigating coastal change, restoring vulnerable habitats and promoting the importance of ecological preservation throughout the Gulf Coast.

In 2015, the CITGO Corpus Christi Refinery is celebrating 80 years of operations in the state of Texas. To learn more about CITGO Caring for Our Coast and the company's larger commitment to environmental stewardship, visit: http://citgocaringforourcoast.com
