H&M's Blog by Helena Helmersson

Today, Textile Exchange published their 2010 Global Market Report on Sustainable Textiles. I was eagerly waiting to read this report and see where all our work to promote the use of organic cotton has lead us. And I was very happy to see the result: H&M is now the world's biggest user of organic cotton! The global market for organic cotton grew by 20% - another great news on the way to a more sustainable cotton supply globally.

At H&M we used more than 15,000 tonnes of organic cotton in 2010, an increase of 77% compared to 2009 (8,500 tonnes). Having reached this high level, growth in the coming years will most likely not continue with such speed – but our commitment to organic cotton clearly continues! Our target is to use cotton from more sustainable sources only by 2020. Beside Better Cotton, which we will soon introduce in our range, organic cotton and also recycled cotton are keys to achieving this target.   HM16574
