Anthony Gitau is Country Head of Novartis Access and Familia Nawiri in Kenya. In his current role, Anthony Gitau is in charge of implementing and scaling up the two social business programs of Novartis in Kenya. These are meant to empower people living at the base of the pyramid to take control of their health and to give them access to quality affordable healthcare services and products. Sara had fallen into the wrong crowd during her time at a local high school. When she entered foster care, she was struggling with substance abuse issues and gang involvement. Sara was placed in a group home, miles away from her family (which had no transportation to visit her), where she was being treated for substance abuse, but the home had no Spanish speaking staff. She continued to receive therapy and substance abuse treatment services in English, to no avail. Having a language and cultural barrier between them, the social worker and all involved could not communicate effectively with her.
Amgen Canada staff have a long history of supporting United Way in the Peel Region of Ontario, with approximately 50 percent of the head office staff participating. Last year they collectively donated almost $40,000 to the organization. Whether organizing a chili cook off and other fun events to raise funds, cleaning up a local park or stocking shelves at a food bank, these dedicated staff are committed to improving their local community.Last year, Amgen Canada staff joined over 150 volunteers to participate in United Way’s Spring Day of Caring. This annual event organizes efforts to fight poverty and improve lives by sending teams of volunteers into the community to work at participating non-profit organizations.
In education policy circles, we spend so much time talking about young people that we sometimes forget to listen to them. Young people can have critical insights on schools and learning that escape the researchers and policy wonks. As we adults struggle to reform science education, we could stand to learn a great deal from students who, after all, have the most to gain from our efforts.
CVS Health announced today that it will come together with the Orlando community to support the OneOrlando Fund, established by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, to raise money for victims and families who have been affected by the Pulse nightclub tragedy.
Today the Financial Solutions Lab (“FinLab”) at the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI) with founding partner JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) announced nine financial services innovators as the winners of its second competition, aimed at identifying solutions that help consumers prepare for – and weather – financial shocks. FinLab selected the winners based on their ability to improve consumers’ financial health. Each winner will receive $250,000 in capital and additional resources to test, enhance and scale the availability of their products and services.
