Is your refrigerator ready for the busy summer season? Here are some simple tips to get your refrigerator in top shape for the summer months while saving food and energy costs.
- Remove old or expired items.
Check expiration dates of items especially condiments. Most condiments expire 6 months to a year after they have been opened. If the smell or color has changed it is probably safe to toss it. - Wipe down cavity.
Remove refrigerator contents and wipe down interior components; remove shelves and clean w/ mild detergent in warm water. - Check water filter. If your refrigerator has a water filter, check the life and replace if needed.
- Refresh Ice. Discard ice in ice bin, wash ice storage bin with mild detergent in warm water, rinse thoroughly and replace – allow 24 hours for ice maker to make new ice.
- Check and clean refrigerator gaskets.
